Site Components that meet the Functionalities of the Site |
Things I Needed
|
Identity |
The development of a logo that communicates a cohesive and clear presentation of the site.
The initial logo that I designed was replaced with a student generated logo incorporating the raised hands capturing the ethusiasm for questions but also the need for curiosity. A great deal of discussion has taken place around the logo and what it might mean. A favicon has been added in the form of a question mark to identify the site. A school logo in the repeated header identifies the site as linked to a school. |
Meet with students to discuss and generate a collaborative design that would be distinctive, engage visitors and capture the characteristics of questioning.
Use digital graphics software to manipulate the graphic into a useable web based image that could be uploaded quickly. Manipulate the image to create a button to be used throughout the site. Register for a pro account at Weebly in order to use a favicon and add quote at the bottom of each page. |
Purpose |
A brief and clear purpose statement is included on the welcome page and followed up on the Teacher Page and the Student Page.
|
The purpose is presented in clear and concise language for students and teachers.
|
Appeal |
A consistent theme of blue was used to unite the whole site. This was combined with a grey text on a white background that added simplicity and complemented the student logo.
|
Several templates from Weebly were used and the current design offered clarity and simplicity.
A small group of students from Year 3 and Year 4 offered their critical responses to the site. The site was rearranged to include changes to the classroom resources and the student section. |
Organisation |
I have provided two different experiences for both student and teachers.
This will not only aid navigation but provide students from a Student Action Team with a space to independently monitor and utilise. |
Learn to create hierarchical pages that could be grouped under key headings.
Consideration of what components of students' questioning could be located under the heading of teachers and students as well as what might be common to the needs of both. |
Information Links |
The resources links have been grouped into several categories for users to access resources quickly according to their need.
|
Teacher resources has included books and web resources that might be particularly of interest to adults. A more general classification of classroom resources includes activities and games that both students and teachers can utilise. Although not complete it is suggestive of further resources to be added.
All resources are hyperlinked to the appropriate web resources or google books. Images of the books provide visitors with a 'taste' of the book. |
Interactivity |
Discussion forums have been placed in both the student and teacher sections.
A poll and survey are two interactive components adding engagement to the site. Weebly offers the ability to monitor access, identifying the pathways of entry into the website. A blog invites participation by offering the opportunity to make comments that are approved and published by the administrator. This will be an important way to record and share the movement of the action research project. The site provides flexibility to include a range of interactive measures that students may introduce in the future such as competitions or quizzes. |
Weebly software was used to provide a discussion forum for Pender's Grove teachers and others who may consider it an opportunity to engage in discussions.
A blog was established using the Weebly software and the Weebly App downloaded to help respond quickly to comments and provide efficient posts. Initial posts portray a little of the content that will start appearing as the action research continues to grow. A contact page encourages visitors to leave comments or suggestions. It is easy to use and an important way to build a communal responsibility for the site. Registration with polldaddy.com enabled the design of a specific survey for students from Year 3 to Year 6 at Pender's Grove. This site was also used to design a poll offering students an engaging and immediate response to a number quesitons focussing on the theme of questioning. |
